"...I would call myself a radical."*
As this is my first post I won't go in depth on anything for now. This is mainly a two-purpose post which will hopefully outline the purpose/goals of this blog and introduce the author.
As far as introductions go, my name is Matt and I am finishing up a bachelors degree in Political Science. I am 21 years of age and I plan on going for my PhD in Political Theory after my undergrad. I am a Marxist/Communist and openly gay which is why this blog will talk a lot about GLBTQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered and Questioning) issues, as well as the current political hot topics.
The goals of this blog are as follows:
A1)Keep things light and interesting.
B2)Bring a new perspective to some old (and not so old) issues.
C3)Inspire intelligent conversations as well as debates
D4) Selfishly, to gain a decent readership (the more who read the more likely I am to update regularly)
and E5) To force myself into the habit of writing for readership on a regular basis.
All are welcome, this is definitely not a blog for only those who agree with me and feel free to point out differences in our beliefs in the comments as long as it is done in a respectful manner. Any comments that I feel are merely flames will be ignored and/or deleted.
I will try to start with weekly updates, but the first update of substance will probably come sooner just so I can get something actually political out there instead of the obligatory "Hi my name is..." post.
I am always open to suggestions on many things, including subject matter you would like to see me cover, or format changes. Since this is my first blog that isn't more of a personal journal (yes I fell into the live journal trap in high school... if you ask nicely I might share that with you) I am treading on un-navigated waters here.
With all of that said, I hope you decide to stick around and enjoy what I have to say.
-Matt
* the quotation used in the beginning is from the late Howard Zinn, from an interview he did. It is not my property and I probably didn't even get it word for word (there are no transcripts of that interview and I haven't seen it in 6 months or so.

I confess to knowing little about blogging, less about LGBT rights, and even less than that about politics in general but allow me to be the first to subscribe to your blog. The first post was well written and attention grabbing (I didn't know you were a commie). I look forward to playing Devil's advocate with you Matt.
ReplyDeleteFew things: missed a closing parenthesis at the very end of the post, but I'm glad that you did spell check, as you said. ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, the quote at the beginning is great, and you've got some great opportunities for things to discuss, so I just want to put this out there as food for thought: Do you ever intend or think you may intend to run for political office in this country? Consider perhaps 10 years from now what things you have written here or will write here and how those ideas and expressions could be turned against you.
Obviously, as a Poli Sci major you should be pretty familiar with this idea, but things hang around on the Internet for ages and ages, just waiting to come back and bite you in the rear.
I look forward to reading more about your ideas on politics. :)
